THANKS
… to all who turned out on a windy but beautiful day to run the courses, to do the treasure hunt and to help. We had lots of great comments and everyone said the course was beautiful and challenging with the beach start and finish being a particular favourite. Lots of great tips to make it even better next year. Results and photos will go up in the next few days. If you have any stories, reports or comments that you want to share please email them to me (ku.oc.oohay|ssomyceelf#ku.oc.oohay|ssomyceelf).
Newsflash 01 May 2009
Entries will be taken on the day and whilst all 3 events will start at 13:30, treasure hunt participants can start later as they are timed from the moment they are given the maps, so if you are worried about time, don't be.
Newsflash 30 Apr 2009
We've been watching the forecasts over the last two weeks and all we can say is that you'd get more consistency out of a politician sitting on a jelly. It is likely that it will rain on saturday and it might rain on sunday. As a result, we recommend that Beauty and Beast runners wear running shoes with the best grip that they can as it may be slippy.
Newsflash 28 Apr 2009
Due to a frisky herd of bullocks, which shouldn't be in two fields where the coast to coast path is but are, we have decided to alter the middle part of the Beast. No, don't worry, we have still kept the Hill of Horrors but if anything the course is now even more picturesque. The photo album and the course data hasn't yet been updated but the distance and climbs are about the same.
Newsflash 18 Apr 2009
We are pleased to announce another support partnership, this time with the Leonard Cheshire Disabilty organisation, who do amazing work with the Befriending scheme in Cumbria. They also have a limited number of Great North Run numbers available for anyone wanting to join in with their work and support them. See the supporters link on the left for details.
Newsflash 11 Apr 2009
Entries are pouring in from all over the country for what promises to be an amazing day so please get your entries in if you don't want to miss out on the 3rd May. In the past month the course has ranged from an It's a knockout mudathon to bone dry so our advice is to bring 2 sets of shoes to match, serious grip off roaders and good support road shoes. Who knows what the actual day may bring. Looking forwards to see ing you all there.
Newsflash 21 March 2009
Supporters are popping up all over the place so we have added a supporters section and first up is the National Blood Transfusion Service. Don't let this worry you and hopefully you won't need their services on the day.
Welcome to the St Bees Beauty and the Beast website
The 2009 event will occur on May 3rd, with registration starting at noon at the lifeboat station. Entry forms can be downloaded, completed and sent off immediately.
St Bees is a lovely seaside village looking out over the Irish sea, and home to a great village school, a busy lifeboat and a lot of people who enjoy walking and running. We decided to bring all these elements together, make some money for charity and open up the amazing trails around our village to the outside world.
By holding it on a Sunday afternoon, we hope to appeal to both runners and families, with 3 events offering a treasure hunt walk, a good 6 mile trail run and a challenging 12 mile event.
All monies raised from entrance fees and from the tea and cake stalls will go to the St Bees Village School Association and the St Bees Lifeboat. As a result there will be no prizes or goodies, just great memories and everlasting (well, until next year) fame for the winners.
Please browse through the links to the left. They provide course profiles, google earth mappings and a picture album walk through of the 2 running courses. You will be hard pushed to find a more beautiful event, giving you views of the Lake District, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Black Combe (rain permitting).
